Homeschool Support Options

St. Thomas Aquinas Academy offers two full enrollment options, registration in online classes, and a self-paced independent study option to help you homeschool with as much or as little support as your family needs.

Enrollment: Placement, Planning, & Support

Enrollment in St. Thomas Aquinas Academy includes course placement through the skills assessment process. After the teaching-parent and academic advisor complete the planning process, students are set for self-paced, independent study of courses, with the help of the weekly course plans in the STAA Study Guides and online quizzes available on the Student Zone website. The grading of all assignments and recordkeeping is left in the hands of the teaching-parents. In addition to the planning appointment before the school year begins, teaching-parents and students have access to telephone meetings with their family's planning advisor and high school advisor throughout the year. Enrollment: Transcript & Diploma Options

This enrollment level includes the placement, independent study of courses, online quizzes, and meetings with the family's planning advisor and high school advisor as mentioned above as well as adds the semester reporting process to develop high school transcripts and earn a diploma. Twice a year packets of specific work samples are submitted for review along with progress reports as part of the transcript process. Live Online High School Classes

Add live classes in essay writing, reasoning, history, literature, economics, government, religion, science, or art to your high school student's semester. These courses feature live class meetings every other school week to complement and guide study of the course material. The class meetings are seminar-style discussions directed by the high school advisor via "Zoom" meeting software. Every week students complete online quizzes to help prepare for the class discussions and keep them on track with the course readings. Student participation in the discussions and the quizzes are graded by the advisor; advisor grading of the writing assignments may be added, too. Small class sizes encourage discussion and participation; class meetings are not lecture-driven. Independent Study with Online Support

Available January 2024. This self-paced, independent study option is available for students in Grades 8 through 12 who wish to study one or more St. Thomas Aquinas Academy courses. With the STAA Study Guides leading the way through the books and materials, students may complete their selected courses at their desired pace. After a brief meeting to register for courses, students are given access to the STAA Student Zone where they receive feedback about their studies through the weekly, online quizzes and have regular access to advisor support through the courses' Q & A Forums.
